Fine Arts Department Mission Statement

The Fine Arts are and essential part of every child's education in the Auburn Public Schools. The Arts enables the senses to explore, develop and become whole and well rounded individuals.

The Fine Arts encourage analytical thinking skills, fine and gross motor skills, self discipline, problem solving skills, team work as well as individuality, cross curricular exploration and social skills.

Program Description

Grade K-5 receive Music instruction twice during a 6-day rotating schedule. Students at Swanson Road in Grades 3-5 may choose to participate in our Strings Program which meets at various times prior to the start of the school day. Grade 5 students also have the option to participate in Concert Band. Auburn Middle School offers Band and Chorus as Electives as well as an auditioned Honors Choir and Jazz Band. Music electives at Auburn High School meet daily during each trimester and are as follows: Chorus, Band, Jazz Band, Music Theory, History of Rock, Beginning Guitar, Beginning Keyboard and AP Music Theory.

K-5 Students receive Art once in a 6-day rotation for 45 minutes. Art instruction includes both the exploration of art but also entails students developing fine and gross motor skills. At Auburn Middle School, Art is taught as an elective. Art electives at the High School meet daily during each trimester and are as follows: Studio Art, Ceramics, Painting, Drawing, Introduction to Art and AP Studio Art.
